Course Outline
We follow the OCR GCE specification for Media Studies. The course is outlined below but there is a wealth of information on the OCR webiste at www.ocr.org.uk.
Over the year we will study a wide range of media but at this time it would be useful for you to know that you will be prepared to answer questions from the TV Drama exam unit (Unit code G322). There are resources and notes hosted on this site under the relevant unit heading in the navigation bar at the top of the page.
Controlled Assessment Units
As you have seen the course is 40% external exam and 60% of what used to be called coursework. Coursework no longer exists and has been replaced by Controlled Conditions Assessment. This may be very different from what parents or older brothers and sister are used to. Please take some time to read what Controlled Conditions Assessments are and what to expect from them.
What sorts of task should I expect?
Are there drafting opportunities?

OCR issue examples of Controlled Conditions Assessments every year but they are flexible and the Media Department will have the final say on the construction of set task. All tasks will contain elements of research and analysis, planning, media production and evaluation.
Your teacher is there to offer you feedback and guidance during every stage of your Controlled Condition Assessment. You are free to ask for advice and receive feedback but decisions and conclusions must be yours - you teacher is not allowed to do the work for you. The amount of specific advice that your teacher is allowed to give is limited so make sure that you listen carefully to advice during the allotted Controlled Conditions Assessment time.
Your teacher is not allowed to provide you with model responses. They are allowed to:
