Narrative Theories
Stories are important to all of us and they have an important role to play in how we, as humans, make sense of the world. For many years people have studied what makes a story effective and we can use some of these theories to explore why certain media texts make us feel the way they do and why we care about fictional characters and situations. Below are the main narrative theories that tend to be applied to modern media.
RepresentationsThe world that we see in the media is created. As a result it is the product of ideas constructed into a text. Therefore we as an audience need to make sense of this and so deconstruct the clues in order to create meaning.
